A true goth enjoys at least one of the bands from answer 1, but can listen to anything they want. Real goths can go from The Cure straight to Gwen Stefani and still be a true to their name.
A poser is someone who listens ONLY to bands such as Paramore, Fall Out Boy etc.
Whats worse is someone who forces themselves to listen to whatever they think is Goth without actually liking it.
If you don't like darkwave music, modern goth bands are fine too. It's really hard to find a goth band anymore, the following are branches from the tree of Goth; Lacuna Coil, HIM, The Rasmus, Emilie Autumn, The 69 Eyes, Type O Negative and so many more.
However classic goth music is the best in my opinion:
Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, Echo and the Bunnymen, Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus Depeche Mode, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds etc.
What Colors Do You Wear?

Goths wear whatever color they want. While only wearing black doesn't mean the goth is a poser, most true goths wear colors such as dark purple, crimson, dark blue, silver etc. either with their black or instead of it.
Some goth subsubcoltures such as Lolita and Cyber wear bright colors.
Real Goths Can Listen To Marilyn Manson

As I mentioned before, true goths can listen to whatever they want. Some goths force themselves not to listen to Manson. They avoid him like the plague for fear of being called poser, thus making them posers themselves for caring so much what other people think.
A true goth can listen to Manson as long as they know he is not Goth, but rather Industrial. Most goths have never even giving Manson a listen before saying he sucks.
One thing a poser goth would do is wear makeup like Manson or tshirts and say Marilyn is a goth.
But a goth can listen to Manson without being poser.
I myself prefer his album Mechanical Animals and Anti-Christ Superstar.
A goth who listens to other genres is more Goth than the ones who only listen to one genre. Thus by listening to whatever you enjoy you are not conforming to the typical goth and conformity is exactly what goths are against.

The most accurate answer is All of The Above. Why? Yes, some aspects sound poserish, but when all are combined, this is the foundation of what a true goth is.
Why do goths wear black? Some reasons are to be identified by other goths, some do this out of conformity (the posers,) some have their own deep philosophical reasons such as expressing their depression for how much life sucks.
Goths are attracted to darker things in life and often think about things normal people try to avoid; such as death. They enjoy Gothic literature and music.
So you see why the best answer a real goth would choose is All of The Above.

Goth slang is certainly not essential to a true goth, but most know that a Baby bat is someone new to the goth scene, and a doomcookie is a poser who wears crow makeup and never smiles for fear of losing that Uber Goth look they think they have created for themselves.

Poser heaven?... no. Even though poser goths shop their often (aswell as emos and such.) But the store can have very good accessories or tshirts that even a true goth would enjoy.
Someone who considers themselves a true goth but never goes into hot topic for fear of being labeled poser is in fact a poser for caring.
I sometimes purchase tshirts from hot topic, but I know it's not a goth shop. It may be alternative or emo, but it's a goods shop at times.

That's the sad truth, most 'goths' are posers.
